The Southbury Middlebury Scholarship Foundation ("SMSF") annually awards scholarships to graduating high school seniors and continuing college students who reside in the towns of Middlebury or Southbury, Connecticut. These awards are based on need, academic achievement and community involvement. The SMSF grants are funded entirely by donations from residents of the two towns. In 2024, awards for graduating seniors totaled $13,850. And an additional $10,500 was awarded to continuing college students. 2024 SMSF grants totaled $24,350. Since 1984, SMSF grants total $762,650.
The SMSF also administers the Delmont and Elfriede Pfeffer Scholarship Fund (the "Pfeffer Fund"). The Pfeffer awards were made possible by a memorial endowment from a Heritage Village resident, Mrs. Elfriede Pfeffer in 1995. The Pfeffer awards are based on academic achievement, community involvement and financial need. To be considered, applicants must be in the top 30% of their class, based on weighted Grade Point Average ("GPA"). Both GPA and Scholastic Assessment Test ("SAT") scores are taken into account. The Pfeffer Fund is awarded as both four-year and one-year scholarships. In 2024, Pfeffer Scholarships totaled $199,500. Since 1997, the Pfeffer Fund has awarded $4,093,083 in scholarships.
